WHAT WE DO

Linking researchers to community

The Hub for the Study of Local Governance in Newfoundland and Labrador (SLG Hub) is a new community of researchers, stakeholders, and professionals active in social scholarship in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Social scholarship is an approach to research that focuses on investigating questions prioritized by the public, and seeks to produce actionable results.

The SLG Hub consists of two parts: a research community and a public website. We facilitate collaborative research projects in Newfoundland and Labrador focused on local public policy and governance broadly defined. Our public website shares and disseminates research findings and provides a way for local people and organizations to connect with potential research partners.

The SLG Hub is currently under development. We will be conducting several listening sessions and other community events to learn how we can best shape our resources to serve local needs.

Memorial University Logo

The Hub for the Study of Local Governance in Newfoundland and Labrador (SLG Hub) is based out of Memorial University, which is located on the ancestral homelands of the Beothuk, whose culture has now been erased forever and can never be recovered.

We acknowledge the island of Ktaqmkuk (Newfoundland) as the unceded, traditional territory of the Beothuk and the Mi'kmaq. We also acknowledge Labrador as the traditional and ancestral homelands of the Innu of Nitassinan, the Inuit of Nunatsiavut, and the Inuit of NunatuKavut.

As First Peoples have done since time immemorial, we strive to be responsible stewards of the land and to respect the cultures, ceremonies, and traditions of all who call it home. As we open our hearts and minds to the past, we commit ourselves to working in a spirit of truth and reconciliation to make a better future for all.

Thank you to First Light for the use of your educational resources.
